In other cases the Holy Spirit gave guidance to establish people in various ministries or church offices. So the Holy Spirit said to some in the church at Antioch, “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them” (Acts 13:2). And Paul could say that the Holy Spirit had established the elders of the Ephesian church in their office because he said, “Take heed to yourselves and to all the flock, in which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers” (Acts 20:28). Finally, the Holy Spirit did provide some guidance through the means of spiritual gifts such as prophecy (1 Cor. 14:29–33).19
